Welcome to English Film Club

For many of us, films are unrivalled as a way of learning a language. There are a number of reasons for this.

When a piece of language is attached to an emotional memory, then we remember it better. Great films give us exactly this—emotional memories, which help the language to stick. Films are also super fun to watch-- they don't feel like a chore, which makes it easier for us to make watching them a consistent habit. Films are also a natural and common conversation topic, and so the chances of speaking about them in the real world, and thereby consolidating the new language, are high.

I believe that with films, regular speaking, and some exercises thrown in, you can make progress extremely quickly. And what is more, you will enjoy the process. That is exactly the idea behind English Film Club. The courses will involve weekly lessons, a film to watch every 2-3 weeks, plus classwork and homework about the film, including discussions about the film and discussions about issues and themes relating to the film.
